MONUMENTS
THE ROYAL PALACE
The Royal Palace was built between 1813 – 1815 and in 1866 it became the residence of King Carol I. Nowadays, the Palace, turned into a museum, hosts some of the world famous artists’ works: El Greco, Rembrandt, Brancusi, Grigorescu.

THE HISTORY MUSEUM
An old building constructed between 1894 – 1900 on the ruins of an inn destroyed by a fire in 1847. Former Post Office Palace, its entrance is decorated with columns in Doric Style, the museum reflect the main stages of the national history.

THE PARLIAMENT BUILDING
Built in 1984 – 1989, it is the most monumental administrative building in Europe and includes hundreds of offices, reception halls, conference rooms and halls for scientific, cultural and socio-politica levents. As inside surface (265.000 square meters), the building is on the second place in the world after Pentagon (Washington).

PATRIARCHIAL CATHEDRAL
This construction of impressive size began between 1654-1658 in the period of Constantin Serban and was finished 7 years later. It reproduces the plan of Curtea de Arges Monastery.
Every year, on the 27th of October, thousands of believers from all over the country journey here to address their prayers to the holly relics of St. Dimitrie – the patron saint of the city.
VILLAGE MUSEUM
Is one of the most interesting ethnographic parks outdoors in the world.
Built in 1936 by Dimitrie Gusti, the museum is very original. The houses and its surroundings from different areas of the country are exposed according to the zones that they belong to.

TRIUMPHAL ARCH
Dedicated to the victory of the Romanian army during the First World War, the Triumphal Arch was rased in two stages (1922 and 1935 – 1936) according to the project of the architect Petre ANTONESCU.
The Triumphal Arch is situated in the north area of Bucharest, District 1, at the intersection of the Kiseleff road with Mareșal Constantin Prezan, Mareșal Alexandru Averescu and Alexandru Constantinescu Boulevards.
CULTURE
ROMANIAN ATHENAEUM
Founded in 1888, with Greek temple aspect, having columns in Ionic style at entrance; gorgeous interior with round frescoes showing moments from the Romanian history.
Today, seasons include over 400 concerts every year that are played both the Symphony Orchestra and the Chamber Orchestra.

ROMANIAN OPERA HOUSE
The Opera House was built in 1953 based on plans of Octav Doicescu; the performance hall can hold 1,200 people.

THE NATIONAL THEATRE
It was founded as the “Teatrul Cel Mare din Bucuresti” (“Grand Theatre of Bucharest”) in 1852, its first director being Costache Caragiale. It became a national institution in 1864 andwas officially named as the National Theatre in 1875.

PARKS
CISMIGIU GARDEN
The oldest garden of the capital was opened for the audience in 1854 and has the name of the high official charged to supply Bucharest with water. Today Cismigiu is an oasis of serenity and relaxation.

KING MICHAEL I PARK (HERASTRAU PARK)
Is a large park on the northern side of Bucharest, around Lake Herastrau. The park is divided in two zones: a rustic natural zone (The Village Museum) and a public domain with areas for recreation activities.
